Most honda accord v6 and odyssey have a problem with the 3rd gear automatic transmission.
to verify if your honda is doing this, drive your car just like normal. make sure you take note every time your transmission shift. 1st gear, engine rpm up to about 3k, then shift to 2nd gear, another 3krpm then 3rd gear. Then you'll notice engine rpm suddenly jumps up to 4krpm and vehicle wont pick-up speed anymore. Then you know you have a problem on your 3rd gear clutches.
Thesame thing if you have a 4 cylinder accord, if the rpm jumps on the 2nd gear, thats a bad 2nd gear clutch, then thats a total a/t overhaul.
Luckily for the v6 you can just replace the clutch pack, hub assembly that comes with new piston, steels, return spring. Note that you need to install the piston seal.it dont come with it. or its just a waste of time.
To replace the 3rd gear. This may not be the expact instructions but just use your common sense. Do this at your own risk.
1. Drain fluid.
2. Do whatever you need to do so you could lower the engine cradle safely. You dont need to drop the cradle totally, just loossen the bolts on the right side and remove the bolts on the left side.make sure to put hydraulic jack under the left side of the cradle.
3. Remove wiring and sensors attached to the side cover of the transmission. Then remove the cover.
Note: theres a bracket on the top part, just push it away.
4. Make sure to put transmission to park. Then remove the locknut.
5. Then carefully pry the 3rd gear clutch assy.out and replace it. It may be hard if the clutch was totally burned.
6. When installing the new clutch assembly, make sure gear inside the clutches is all the way in or youll burn your new clutch.
I've done it my self and not replacing or overhauling the whole transmission.
I order my parts from PDQ.com. Have fun and good luck
