Reseal Honda Power Steering Pump

Note: the only problem your gona have is to figure out if your pulley nut is right hand thread or left hand thread.
* you can only buy the reseal kit from the dealer. It shouldnt be that expensive, approx.$30.00
To know if your going counter or clockwise to loosen the nut, do this: before you actually remove the pump off the car, identify your pump normal rotation. Face the front of your engine (not front of the car). If your pump pulley rotation is clockwise, that means, to loosen your pulley nut, you have to turn the nut clockwise. Counter clockwise if pulley turns counter clockwise.

1. Insert a screw driver on one of the hole in the screw driver to lock the pulley so it wont rotate while removing the pulley nut. Or if you have an impact gun, just hold the pulley firm then remove the nut.
2. remove the pulley and set aside.

11. Unscrew the seat in the top end of the valve, and remove any shims, the relief check ball,
relief valve and relief valve spring.
12. Clean all the parts in solvent, dry them off, then reassemble and retest the valve (see step 7).
If the flow control valve tests OK, reinstall it in the pump. If the flow control valve still leaks air,
replace the pump as an assembly. The flow control valve is not available separately.
NOTE: If necessary, relief pressure is adjusted at the factory by adding shims under the check bail seat.
If you found shims in your valve, be sure you reinstall as many as you took out.

CAUTION: The pump components are made of aluminum. Be careful not to damage them when servicing.

Honda power steering pump

Most problems of honda power steering pump is making noise, leaking and hard steering

To fix the pump that makes alot of noise, most likely to happen on accords. Just reseal the pump. There is an internal leak on that pump. Thesame thing if your pump is leaking externally, reseal is the best way.

For a hard steering, which is most likely to happen on 2004 to 2008 odyssey's. They have a recall on those pump, they will actually replace your pump for free. Just dont be afraid to contact your local dealer.

I will post on my next blog on how to reseal your power steering pump. There is a service news on honda power steering pump that once your pump is making noise, replace your fluid reservoir. Theres a screen acting as a filter that is clogged, limiting fluid flow to pump. I replace the reservoir, still making noise. If anybody has a story that fix the pump noise after replacing the reservoir, i want to know cause i never found one.

How to check tire air pressure properly

You need tire pressure gauge. Check the air pressure on each tire one at a time and record the air pressure on each tire.
Ex. LF = 30psi; RF= 30; LR= 24; RR=30

In my example, the Left Rear tire is low compared to the rest of the tire. Most likely that tire is leaking. Put at least 40psi on that tire and put 35 on other tires. then drive to the shop right away to fix the leak

If the difference of air pressure between tires are only 2 psi, that's normal. If the tire is hot, add 3 psi on the factory tire air pressure specs located on the drivers door jam.

Always check your tire air pressure specially before going to a long drive.

Cylinder head inspection

Basic cylinder head inspection after cylinder head removal. This is to check to see if you have a leaking valves.

If your checking the intake valves, tilt your head sideways facing intake manifold studs up. Pour water on each intake hole then check to see if water is leaking out the valves. Do thesame procedure to the other valves.

As simple as that.

Engine overheating

If your driving and notice your engine temperature starts to rise than normal and cant stop driving right away, run your heater to full blast whith the fresh air mode on. you'll notice a drop on your engine temperature. This is just  temporary if you cant stop driving right away.
If your engine temperature rise up all the wayto the red line. Pls do not attemp to drive your car.get it towed.

Find a gas station where theres water. Open your hood, careful not to burn your self. wait atleast 10mins for the engine to cool down a little bit. Then pour water on top of your engine and radiator until it cool down. Then slowly open your radiator cap using a rag at thesame time pouring water on top of the cap to avoid burning your self. It is still hot and might spit some hot coolant. Then fill radiator with water. Then drive to the nearest shop to reduce possiblity of engine damage.

Honda transmission problems

Most honda accord v6 and odyssey have a problem with the 3rd gear automatic transmission.
to verify if your honda is doing this, drive your car just like normal. make sure you take note every time your transmission shift. 1st gear, engine rpm up to about 3k, then shift to 2nd gear, another 3krpm then 3rd gear. Then you'll notice engine rpm suddenly jumps up to 4krpm and vehicle wont pick-up speed anymore. Then you know you have a problem on your 3rd gear clutches.

Thesame thing if you have a 4 cylinder accord, if the rpm jumps on the 2nd gear, thats a bad 2nd gear clutch, then thats a total a/t overhaul.

Luckily for the v6 you can just replace the clutch pack, hub assembly that comes with new piston, steels, return spring. Note that you need to install the piston seal.it dont come with it. or its just a waste of time.

To replace the 3rd gear. This may not be the expact instructions but just use your common sense. Do this at your own risk.

1. Drain fluid.
2. Do whatever you need to do so you could lower the engine cradle safely. You dont need to drop the cradle totally, just loossen the bolts on the right side and remove the bolts on the left side.make sure to put hydraulic jack under the left side of the cradle.
3. Remove wiring and sensors attached to the side cover of the transmission. Then remove the cover.
Note: theres a bracket on the top part, just push it away.
4. Make sure to put transmission to park. Then remove the locknut.

5. Then carefully pry the 3rd gear clutch assy.out and replace it. It may be hard if the clutch was totally burned.
6. When installing the new clutch assembly, make sure gear inside the clutches is all the way in or youll burn your new clutch.

I've done it my self and not replacing or overhauling the whole transmission.
I order my parts from PDQ.com. Have fun and good luck

2003 to 2007 Honda Accord brake lamp indicator on

Fix it your self. Brake lamp indicator will turn on if your parking brake is on or your brake fluid level is low.
If brake fluid level is in proper level and parking brake is off and still brake lamp on, most likely your brake master cylinder float is stuck at the bottom inside the master cylinder. This light may also trigger the VSA and the TCS light to come on.

To fix this, do the ff:
1. It doesn't matter if the key is off or on.
2. Get a big magnet like the magnet in the speaker. maybe about 4" in diameter and a screw driver.you just need the handle. It don't matter if flat or philip.
3. Set the magnet on top of master cylinder. Not on top of the cap. But on the flat surface above the master cylinder.
4. Tap the side of the master cylinder to unstuck the float and the magnet will pull the float up.

If this didn't work, flip the magnet and tap the side of the master cylinder again. Start the engine to see if the light is still ON

2008 to 2010 Honda Accord 2009 2010 Honda Pilot remote intermittently inoperative

SYMPTOM

The keyless remote works intermittently or not at all.

PROBABLE CAUSE

There is an excessive gap between the keyless remote's printed circuit board and its lower cover.
CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the keyless remote module. Use the HDS to rewrite the transponder code into the immobilizer control unit.
* Most likely it is covered under extended warranty. Call your dealer for details

Diagnose a bad fuel pump

Basic fuel pump diagnosis.

If a fuel pump is suspected to be bad and dont have a fuel pressure tester or any other fancy tools, maybe atleast you have a rag and small screw driver.
1. turn the key on and listen to the pump makes noise, then turn the key off. Do this atleast 3X.
2. Some vehicles like dodge caravan, on the fuel rail, located is the test port looks like this picture

 3. Remove the cap and press the valve core located inside the port. A fuel should squirt out the port. Use the rag to catch the fuel.

Note: A Squirt is enough to start the car. If still in doubt, crank your car for about 5X then remove one spark plug, it should be wet with fuel. If dry and no squirt come out the test port, then for sure you have a bad fuel pump.

Shift lever wont come out of park

If the shifter wont come out of park when the engine is running, and only if inserting a key or flat screw driver on the shift lock release gets the shift lever to shift, you may also want to consider checking your brake light. If your brake light is out, most likely you have a brake light switch that is bad.

The switch turns your shift solenoid on and off if you press your brake pedal.

Diagnose steering wheel vibration

There are many possible reasons of steering wheel vhbrations. It also depend on the vehicle speed where the vibrations occur.

On car with a vibration on a low speed like 20-30mph, most likely you have a separated tires. That means one spot of your front tires is higher than the other points of the tire that touch the ground. To locate the taller spot on the tire, the low spot has more thread depth and the tall spot has less thread thickness. Make sure you replace the separated tire right away. This may cause a tire to blow causing an accident.
If the separated tire is located on the rear, there will be no steering wheel vibration on that speed but vibration on the rear of the vehicle.

On the car with a vibration on freeway speed like 60-80mph, press the gas then release, then you notice the vibration. that means you have a wheel balance issue. If the shop balanced your tire and still having thesame issue, ask the shop to perform a road force balance on your tires. this means their machine will locate the heavy part of your tire, and match it to the rim. they will then mark the tire and the rim and then align those mark to have a smooth ride.

On the car with a vibration on freeway speed like 60-80mph, but vibration occur most during acceleration, this means, you have an issue with your drive axle, or internal differential problem.

On the car with a vibration on freeway speed like 60-80mph, and only occur when slightly pressing brake pedal, you have a warped front brake rotor. To fix this, take your car to the shop and ask them to resurface your front rotor. Make sure they measure your rotor first before they resurface it if it is still in its service limit.

Honda SRS lamp on

1994 to 1997 Honda Accord srs lamp on. With no accident, for whatever reason, most srs module just fail. Do not buy a used one from the junkyard. Most likely you'll get a bad one. Its your safety, get a new one.

1998 and above, Most honda from civic to pilot, dont be afraid to take it to the dealer. Because most of the time, the drivers seat belt buckle fails. This means they will replace your buckle for free. They may say that they will charge you $110.00 just for diagnosis. But once they found out that it is a faulty buckle or seat belt, it is covered under a lifetime warranty. You'll get a free replacement.

* It is very important to get rid of your SRS light. If you dont, and you'll get into an accident, YOUR AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY.

program pcm on 2001 chevy malibu

this is how you program a brand new pcm without going to the dealer.

1. Insure that the battery is fully charged.
2. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
3. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the CRANK position attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle will start and then stall.
4. Leave the ignition switch in the ON position while observing the security indicator.
5. When the security indicator turns off, which can take up to 10 minutes, turn the ignition switch off. Wait 10 seconds.

The BCM (body control module) and the PCM (power control module) will learn the new code on the next start attempt.
Note: you need to set the monitors before you can actually get the smog done. To do this, drive your vehicle about 50miles highway and maintain 65mph for atleast 10min. Then use any obd2 scanner to check the monitors
